White House adviser: Whether Trump fires Powell or not, the Feds answer to the headquarters renovation is the key
Odaily News White House economic adviser Hassett said on Sunday that U.S. President Trump has the power to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Powell if there is evidence to support it, adding that the Fed bears a lot of responsibility for the cost overruns of its Washington headquarters renovations. Hassett said any decision by Trump to try to fire Powell would depend largely on the Feds response to the headquarters renovation. White House budget director Watt last week slammed Powell for lying about the renovation of the Fed building. Trump has repeatedly said that Powell should resign because he did not lower interest rates. (Jinshi)
